BOMA of Metropolitan Detroit Honors Industry Leaders at
Annual Leadership Awards Gala
Farmington Hills, Michigan, October 13, 2003 - The Building Owners
and Managers Association of Metropolitan Detroit (BOMA) held its annual
black tie Office Building of the Year (TOBY) and Leadership Awards Gala
on Friday evening, October 10th, at the American Center in Southfield.
The Gala is held each year to honor outstanding leaders in the commercial
real estate industry. The TOBY Awards, now in its 19th year, is the
most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial
real estate industry, recognizing quality in office buildings and awarding
excellence in office building management.
With over 200 building owners and property managers in attendance,
DTE Energy was honored as Building Owner of the Year. Cynthia M. McDonell,
of Colonnade Properties, L.L.C., was named Property Manager of the Year;
David A. Mott, AAA of Michigan, Facility Manager of the Year; TRANE,
Supplier of the Year; and Speaker Rick Johnson, Michigan House of Representatives,
Legislator of the Year.
The Market Place in Ann Arbor, Long Lake Crossings in Troy, and the
Oakland Towne Square located in Southfield all took first place in their
respective square footage categories as Buildings of the Year. Unasource
Health located in Troy was named Medical Office Building
of the Year, the Troy Corporate Center took first in the Suburban Office
Park category, and the Bingham Office Center located in Bingham Farms
was named first in the Renovated Building category.
The TOBY awards were created to recognize excellence in office building
ownership and management. The property manager and facility manager
awards recognize leadership in commercial real estate management by
individuals who have gone well beyond the expected standards of service
and professionalism. The supplier award is given to a company that continually
supplies extraordinary services or products to the commercial real estate
industry; the building owner of the year award is bestowed upon a company
that exemplifies outstanding support of the commercial real estate industry;
and the outstanding service award recipients are chosen by the BOMA
Board for their exceptional dedication in helping to achieve BOMA's
goals. The Legislator of the Year Award, selected by the BOMA Board
of Directors, is bestowed upon a legislator to recognize and honor a
local or state public official, whether elected, appointed, or civil
service, who has provided significant service to the community in a
manner that, among other things, has supported and benefited BOMA members
and/or the commercial real estate industry.
The winners from the BOMA Detroit TOBY awards will move on to the BOMA
International competition at the BOMA International Annual Convention.
